Ephesians 3:11 – Christ Is the Eternal Purpose

Ephesians 3-11 700x400

Ephesians 3:8-12
“8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the  manifold wisdom of God,  11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed  in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with  confidence by the faith of him.”

Here’s another long sentence written by Paul according to the translators. This is all about the eternal purpose in Christ. In fact, Jesus was the eternal purpose hidden from the beginning of the world. “This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:11 NASB)

This is a mystery now known to the church and through which the authorities, principalities and powers in the heavenlies know their place. God’s eternal purpose is to reveal the work of grace in the finished work of Jesus. The principalities and powers didn’t know what God was up to when Jesus came to the earth. But now they know because it God proclaimed it through the church.

So that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 3:10 ESV)

Through this eternal purpose that brought sinners to grace and brought salvation to man. This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:11 NASB)

In Christ we have boldness and access by faith. “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) The divine purpose to restore fallen man God completed through Jesus on the Cross. Our sins are forgiven. We are the righteousness of God. We are holy and can enter the presence of a holy God. We need never fear going to Him.
