“Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink:
but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.”
2 John 1:12
On first glance when you read this verse it is easy to scan over John’s desire just to share more with one particular believer mentioned here as the elect lady. John personally knew this person and her children. But that isn’t where our emphasis is today. You can look up commentaries and find various explanations about who this lady was. Regardless of who it refers to, I believe the Holy Spirit wants us to see and concentrate on something else.
John desires to come in person and speak face-to-face with this elect lady but because of his circumstances, he’s left to ink and paper—or in our day and time it would be emails or text messages. He’s spent time with this person before.
What is the importance of the face-to-face meeting? It’s fellowship. What is the result of this hoped-for, face-to-face meeting? That their joy would be full.
Are you getting a better picture of what the Lord is saying now?
It is only through times of meeting with the Lord over His Word and through prayer that we are brought into fellowship with Him. He wants so much to spend time with us—with you. He has much to share with you. In this fellowshipping and while He shares His love and grace with you, His Joy is full. That, in turn, gives you much joy. Fellowship produces joy.
Do you desire more JOY in your life? Simple solution is to spend more time fellowshipping with your God, your Savior. He’s ready to meet with you face-to-face and give you fullness of His joy—His grace.
