Galatians 3:26 – Children of God through Jesus

galatians 3-26 700x400

Galatians 3:26

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (NASB)

The Holy Spirit packed this short verse with powerful words. It is one of Paul’s most clear statements against Universalism. Even though he begins that all are sons of God, he clarifies it to mean that all are sons through faith in Jesus. Not everyone born into this world is a son of God. Salvation is not given to everyone. This teaching is foreign to this verse and the whole of scripture as well.

The word for son is the word for a mature child. The Authorized Version more correctly denotes that we are all children. It’s not restricted to males only. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)

This is a wonderful statement. We are all children of God. We are born again into His family. We have all the rights and privileges as a child of a great King.

Most of us adults have a more difficult time seeing ourselves as children. We are grownups, not little children. When we get together with our grown children we get the sense that our children though adults are still our children. With God whether we are children or grownups we are still His sons and daughters. When we can truly see ourselves as God sees us, we can enjoy our life in Christ and can see the potential in others.

Think of yourself as God’s child. “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14) Have you a little child left in you? Jesus called His disciples children. “Little children…” (John 13:33) “Then Jesus saith unto them, Children…” (John 21:5) I don’t believe He said it in a derogatory way but how God sees us. Jesus was showing us that the Father loves us as we would love our children.

We have the rights of God’s children through faith. Everything we have in Christ is by grace through faith in His finished work on the Cross. “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8:17)
