Jesus Is Your Portion

“Thou art my portion, O Lord…”
Psalm 119:57

The other day we began considering the Lord as our portion. “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want” David said in Psalm 23:1. The Lord was his portion and he was not in lack at any time. He received a part of the larger amount.

In fact, in verse 5 of Psalm 23 David says that there’s a table spread before him in the presence of his enemies. This table has all the good foods he desires and wants. But we can also see on this table is God’s provisions of His love and grace, His healing, His prosperity, His peace, His life. This table is available 24/7 to you and I. Our portion should not be lacking in any area.

Through the finished work of Jesus on the Cross, God has provided everything you and I need for our lives, both here on earth and for eternity. I hope you’ve taken time to consider what portion of the Lord you’ve taken and what more do you need or want. Again, you can take the Basic Salvation Package, but God has provided much, much more and it’s all available for you just the same as the salvation package. In fact, the word salvation includes eternal life, wholeness, healing, peace, etc. If you’re not including these in your portion, you’re missing so much of what the Lord has already given to you.

David declared in Psalm 119:57 that “thou art my portion, O Lord…” He was the King. He could have anything he wanted or needed. Yet, he didn’t look to earthly wealth. He considered the Lord his portion, and declares that it is more than enough.

Even Jeremiah declared that the Lord was his portion in Lamentations 3:24 – “The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.”

I love what David also said in Psalm 16:5 – “The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup…” He understood the meaning of inheritance and he considered the Lord the best inheritance he could ever receive.

The Lord was all that these mighty men of God needed. He is all that you need today. He has provided joy unspeakable and full of glory for you. He has promised to meet all your needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus. He is your Peace – your Shalom. He is your joy. He is your Savior. He is your provider, your defender, your strong tower.

His portion to you is only less when you don’t know what He’s done for you and what He’s already provided. It’s time to get the big container out and receive your portion of everything God has for you.
