Staying In God’s Love

“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
Jude 1:21

How do you keep yourself in the love of God? It’s not through just doing certain things trying to earn God’s love. He already loves you. Jude tells believers to KEEP themselves in the love of God, the agape of God. Since he’s encouraging believers—you and I—to KEEP ourselves in God’s love, then there is the opposite of not staying in God’s love. Hmmm….

Before we can understand our part of staying in the love of God, we need to understand what this agape love is. It is not brotherly love, or romantic love. It is selfless love, unconditional love, the highest love there is. It is a picture of God’s love for us—loving us whether we chose to love Him back or not.

We can’t on our own merits or strengths keep ourselves in the love of God without God’s love being a part of our lives, being IN us. The best way to build this love is to fellowship with the God of love. When we read and study His Word, we are enveloped in His love. It’s because of His love for us that we have eternal life, that we enjoy His blessings and favor in our lives.

The more we keep God’s love as our focus—focusing on what He’s already done for us—the more we will walk in love. And the more we walk in His love, the more we will keep ourselves in the love of God.

So continue to keep yourself in the love of God as you focus on His love for you. It’ll change your life and your world.
