Acts 2
May 7, 2014Acts 3
May 8, 20142 Timothy 1:1
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus.
Here Paul introduces this letter to Timothy as an Apostle of Jesus Christ according to the promise of life. Paul always puts Jesus at the center of all conversation. Everything we are and have is because of Jesus. If the preacher isn’t preaching Jesus, he isn’t preaching the Word.
The promise of life is in Christ Jesus. Life came when Jesus came. “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men” (John 1:4). God had to send life to the earth. The fall of man put everyone under the sentence of death. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1). “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus came to give every man who believes in Him, eternal life. By grace through faith a person is born again and becomes a new creation. The dead is now alive and will be so for eternity.
Jesus is the promise of life. Jesus is the life. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Apart from Jesus we are nothing. We are still dead in sins under the punishment and wrath of God. God saw us laboring under this enormous load and sent Jesus to carry the load for us. He came to remove sin and give a new life.
God has a promise of life. All you have to do is accept it by faith. All the promises are yea and amen. All His promises are sure. Through Jesus we have this marvelous promise of life. That life is yet another benefit for being in Christ. Live the abundant life in Christ.
