2 Timothy 1:9 – In Christ Before the World Began

2 timothy 1-9 700x400

2 Timothy 1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

Again we have what was given us in Christ. He saved us and called us with a holy calling. All this was by grace. We didn’t deserve it nor could we work for it. But it was God’s purpose from even before the world began.

This is a concept which is hard for us to understand. The earth, the history of man, and the coming of Jesus was all part of the plan of God far before the world even began. Before the cosmos was even created God already had this plan. “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5). Jesus spoke of His existence before the world was even a particle yet. “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world” (John 17:24). Before the founding of the world the plan and purpose God had conceived.

We have to think in terms of time. In fact, have you ever tried to think how anything would be apart from time? We get up in the morning and then we do something else. It’s not in our logic system  to see our day and not think of it in a timeframe. But God can see the whole plan at one time. He isn’t restricted to time. He saw the world created and man fashioned, falling, and His sending His Son. It shakes our minds because we have no reference to something so marvelous.

“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory” (1 Corinthians 2:7). Jesus was the mystery hidden. God had ordained that before He conceived the earth and created man. That was what we have in Christ which God know we would receive.
