2 Timothy 2:10 – Salvation in Christ

2 timothy 2-10 700x400

2 Timothy 2:10
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes,
that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Paul often told of his tribulations and sufferings in the ministry Jesus had called him into. It wasn’t an easy task. It was only the grace of God that sustained him. He had it in his heart that he wanted as many people as possible to obtain salvation. In 2 Corinthians 1:6 Paul said, “But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer” (NASB).

We are all subject to persecution.Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). Paul suffered all sorts of tribulations—both physical and mental. Some believers around the world are suffering greatly and some of us not so much. If you make a stand for your faith then many will shun you. Old friends will no longer be your friends. When you tell someone you are going to church on Sunday and can’t go fishing with him, you will either get ridiculed or shunned. Maybe a good friend will understand.

Our endurance for suffering is a pattern from Jesus. What did Jesus suffer? Was He ridiculed and shunned? Look at Hebrews 12:2-3. “2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds” (Hebrews 12:2-3).

Paul endured for the potential to see people enter into salvation. Not just escape the fire of hell, but for an eternal glory—an everlasting salvation. Jesus endured for the joy of knowing He would be the way to salvation for many. This was God’s plan from before the world began.

I endure for the those who will obtain salvation.
