1 John 1:5 (NASB)
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you,
that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
John said this message came from Jesus. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). Here John records what Jesus said about Him being the light of the world. John spells it out in more detail how this light began. “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:1-4).
I think Jesus came on the creation scene when God said let there be light. Jesus created all things. When He came to the earth, He came as the spiritual light that would shine in the darkness. Light always dispels darkness. Jesus came and His own couldn’t comprehend this light. It was a light shining onto the path of salvation. They couldn’t believe this was the Messiah. But for everyone who believes they become the children of God.
Light is a powerful force. Darkness can’t overcome it. Jesus had no darkness in Him. He is pure light. Darkness spiritually is evil. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). God does not change. He isn’t light a candle that burns out. He is perpetual light. Even the sun will eventually go out, but Jesus will always be the light. “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever” (Revelation 22:5).
God doesn’t do “bad.” If it’s bad it came from someplace else. Jesus only does “good” for you.
