Colossians 2:9 – God in Him

colossians 2-9 700x400

Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV)
9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

In Him—Jesus was all the fullness of God. “For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell” (Colossians 1:19). When you look at Jesus, you see the Father—God. In fact, Jesus specifically stated, “Jesus saith … he that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). Jesus was fully man but was fully God. In Him was the Godhead. This is the only place this word is used in the Bible. It comes from the word theos or God. All the divinity of God was in Jesus.

What this means for us is if you want to know what God is like, how He thinks and operates, then look at Jesus. Does God put sickness on people to teach them something? The answer is simple. Did Jesus put sickness on people? No. He healed all that were sick and oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

Did Jesus ever promise anything and then change His mind? No. God’s promises are all yes and amen. Did Jesus ever lack or was there ever lack where He was? No. He fed 5000 and 4000 with baskets full left over.

Does God care about people? Jesus went out of His way to meet a woman at a well. When the disciples were in a fierce storm and Jesus was asleep, they asked don’t you care? Jesus immediately calmed the storm.

What does God think about the self-righteous? Jesus called them vipers and blind leading the blind. The only time the Bible says Jesus got angry and grieved was over the hardness of the hearts of people so locked under traditions and law. They didn’t want Jesus to heal a man on the Sabbath because it might be taken as not keeping the Sabbath holy.

Jesus is the image of God. “Who is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). So if you want to know how God looks at you and situations you are in, look at Jesus. If you want to know how much God loves you, look at Jesus.
