Without Borders

Exodus 34:24
For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders.

We sang a worship song not long ago at church with these words—Holy Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. As I sang that song, I had a picture in my mind. Having worked in administrative and word processing work in the corporate world for nearly 20 years, I’ve made many tables to display facts, categories, lists, etc. That’s what I saw as I sang this worship song—a table without outlined borders. Most of the time when you create a table you want it with borders on each the rows and every column to keep listed items separated. But the table I saw was a table without borders.

How do we apply this to our spiritual life? I believe many times we place borders in various areas of our lives or around certain aspects of our lives. When we put these borders up, we prohibit the Lord working in our hearts. We can put a border up called lack of faith stating that we really don’t have what it takes. We can put up a border of guilt and condemnation because of our past. We can put up any number of borders that keep us from experiencing God’s love, power, and grace in our lives.

When we are able to abandon the borders, we are free to rest in His care, in His Word and wisdom. When we release the constraints of borders, we can simply fall into His arms of safety, protection, and provision trusting Him. Jesus wants to erase the borders. The borders keep Him from flowing in your life, from transforming your life.

The bottom line to eliminating the borders in your life is to get to know Jesus more intimately, to experience His love for you. It is abandoning yourself to the God who cares more for you more than anyone ever could and believing His Word knowing that He loves you regardless of where you are right now. Let His presence enfold you in His love. There’s such freedom and liberty in His presence without borders. Say “I relinquish the borders I’ve put up, Lord, and I will trust and rest in You.”
