1 John 5:14 – Confidence In Him

1 john 5-14 700x400

1 John 5:14
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

This is a wonderful promise. Many Christians get hung up on the part about knowing God’s will. Therefore they are saying things like, “If it be your will.” There is no faith in that statement. You can’t ask like that and believe you will receive. “After all, you never know what God is going to do.” That simply removes any promise about prayer. You won’t feel you can go boldly into the throne of grace and ask in time of need.

We, however, have confidence that He will hear us. God’s will is not some mysterious thing. His will is His Word. Know the Word and know the will. God hasn’t hidden anything from us. He wants to hear from us and answer our prayer. He is a good God.

“11 Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12 Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:11-13 NASB)

We are God’s children. He isn’t too busy to take time to hear us. You can discuss anything with Him. He loves to fellowship with you. He isn’t going to get mad at you if you ask for the wrong thing or if you pray the wrong thing.

Our confidence is in Him. That’s our focus. We look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. We don’t put confidence in anything other than Jesus and His grace. That’s why we can have confidence in Him.

We know He hears us so we have what we ask. “15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (1 John 5:15). Let’s learn the will of God and ask in faith. Believe in Him to teach you His will.
