Words and Their Power

John 6:63
63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that
I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Jesus was sharing an awesome truth that is still the same today and will be forever. HIS words are full of life, peace, joy, spiritual fulfillment, provision, health…everything you need. If other words spoken over you or at you don’t line up with what God says about you, don’t let them filter into your thoughts.

Recently we heard a young mother, author, and speaker share her journey from sickness and near death to health, healing, and life that is full to overflowing. She shared how words held power over her and kept her in bondage, especially in the early days of sickness. It wasn’t long until she discovered the power of God’s promises from the Word, and she hasn’t let go of them.

The power of words spoken over you, whether good or bad, try to set a reality for you; but what others say may not necessarily line up with what God says. In that case, how do you handle the power of those words?

Understand that not everyone will be on the same page as you in their spiritual walk. They may mean well but not offer the foundation of God’s Word to encourage you. They may only be able to speak to you from their personal experience and struggles, and what they share, even in encouragement, may not speak life. Don’t accept what doesn’t line up with God’s Word.

Jesus said what He spoke were words of truth and they carried power. His words contain spirit – life-giving, God-breathed LIFE. Words of doubt, fear, or worry do not contain God-breathed life. He spoke words of life, and He only spoke what He heard His Heavenly Father say. He breathed His very life into His words and LIFE came forth; therefore, when you speak HIS words over your life, you can expect to see His LIFE come forth.

Your words frame your world, so start framing your world with the words that God speaks—words of faith, words of trust, words of love, words of grace. Speak His words of your approval (because you’re His favorite), and don’t back down or accept anything else, no matter what you might hear.
