August 19, 20141 Peter 2:5
5 You also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Did you realize you’re a lively stone, not just a plain old stone but a lively one, a living stone? This is an interesting illustration that Peter gives, and in this chapter he says that Jesus is the chief corner stone on which we should build our lives. The corner stone is the most crucial stone when constructing a building. It must be precise because all subsequent lines, walls, beams, and angles of the building are determined by the corner stone.
If you’ve ever watched the construction of a building, you know that a builder doesn’t start with the roof and work down. He starts with the foundation and works up and out. Once the framework is completed, the roof is put on and the walls take shape.
Peter gives this picture of our spiritual lives as living stone firmly grounded on the corner stone, Jesus. You and I as believers we are a holy priesthood. We have been sanctified by the blood of Jesus shed for us, we have been made righteous because of His sacrifice for us, and we are able to praise and worship to our God because of what Jesus did for us.
Today, you are a living stone firmly planted on the chief corner stone. You house the very presence of God within you. Nothing can separate you from God’s love or keep you from continuing to praise and worship Him. Jesus made you worthy to receive ALL that God has for you through His finished work. He’s not done but has good things ahead for you.
