2 Corinthians 11
August 12, 20142 Corinthians 12
August 13, 2014John 15:5
5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Did you know that some plants ‘spit out’ their seeds? I knew impatiens did that when I planted some years ago. I also found out this weekend that various types of ‘flowered weeds’ also spit out their seeds. When I bent down to pull some weeds out next to the edging, a blur of small objects flew by. I reached for other weeds and saw the same thing and then heard a noise, like something hitting dried leaves. I stepped back and then forward a foot to the left and that same thing took place. It finally dawned on me that the flowered weeds were expelling their seeds.
I didn’t think too much more about that until I heard a sermon several days later mentioning how our life is hooked into the Vine—Jesus. We’re the branches, so if the branch isn’t hooked into the Vine, it’ll just be a stick, lifeless and dead. You and I can be lifeless, dead sticks or we can be branches that are alive, full of life from the Vine and thriving.
The life of Jesus flowing through us will create life around us. It’s like the plants that spit out their seeds. Those seeds carry life for new growth wherever they land. When you hook into Jesus, you hook into the power of God which is Christ in you, the hope of glory as Paul says (Colossians 1:27). When you have the very power of God operating in you, you will be able to take His life wherever you go (John 1:4). His life will pour forth from your life and touch others because you are hooked into the Vine which is the source of all life, love, grace, provision, salvation, healing, and so much more.
The seeds the plants spit out have the potential of bringing new life forth. Because you’re hooked into the Vine, Jesus, you can do what He did and greater things because He is in you and you are in Him.
Realize today that you have within you what the world needs, what your neighbors need. You have Jesus. Stay connected to Him and you’ll be ready to share His Life with those you meet.
