Philippians 1:11

11 May you abound in and be filled with the fruits of righteousness (of right standing with God and right doing) which come through Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, to the honor and praise of God—that His glory may be both manifested and recognized.” (Amplified)

The Apostle Paul’s call was to teach and share the wonderful truth that God’s love, grace, gifts, peace—everything was now available to all people. He especially wanted believers to know Jesus intimately as He did. He wanted believers to understand the height and depth of God’s love. He wanted the Body of Christ to grow in righteousness.

That’s why in verse 11 he adds to his desire in earlier verses for them to abound in God’s love so that they abound in and are filled with the fruits of righteousness. What are the fruits of righteousness you ask?  Look at verse 11 from the Amplified version.

The righteousness Paul is talking about is not self-righteousness, what you can do in and of yourself to earn God’s love. He’s not talking about the righteousness of the law because no one can keep the law perfectly and by following it be in right standing before God. Paul is talking about righteousness that only comes through knowing Jesus who fulfilled all righteousness. Whereas man’s sin separated him from fellowship with God, Jesus’ sacrifice provided the means for us to now be in right standing before God. You are no longer justified by what you do or don’t do. Your right doing is what Jesus did for you.

You and I need to be filled up with God’s righteousness in Jesus. We are to abound—increase and grow—in His righteousness that says I’m accepted of Him. He loves me just as I am right now. I don’t have to clean my act up for God to love me.

The more you focus on everything that Jesus has provided for you, the more you will be FULL of His righteousness, and the result will produce the fruits of righteousness, joy, peace, blessings, and grace.

Don’t come up short or be lacking but be FILLED with your right standing and right believing of a good God. Then share that with others.
