Colossians 2:19 – All Receive From JesusOctober 15, 2014
13Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Over the years I’ve made some stuffed toys and animals for my children and grandchildren and even decorative pillows for other family members. I’ve recognized that without sufficient stuffing, whatever you’re making won’t have enough insides to last long. Some stuffing material will loosen after time and a pillow or animal can appear deflated when that happens. Sometimes it’s just better to overstuff a bit. You’re probably wondering what stuffing toys or pillows have to do with your spiritual walk? I’m glad you asked.
When I read this scripture in Romans I immediately pictured the stuffed items I’ve made in years past. I remember that I had to cut the material or pattern and then sew the parts together before I could begin stuffing them. Once they were ready for stuffing, I could start filling them with stuffing.
Continuing to meditate on this verse, I had a clearer perspective of an exciting truth and it relates to God’s filling material. God has taken our lives and remakes them. His pattern is to make us into the image of His Son, Jesus—God’s character in us. We’re a treasured possession, a people chosen and called by God Himself.
As He remakes us, a renewing begins. Our spirits are reborn. We’re new creatures. No longer are we just plain fabric. He’s molding us into unique pieces of art, His display of love and life in the world.
It will do us well to look a little more closely at the filling God uses. And, I’ll give you a hint today that it includes joy and peace as our verse says but also so much more. It includes hope which is the anchor of our souls (Hebrews 6:19).
Don’t settle for where you are today in your spiritual walk. There’s so much more ahead. Allow the God of all hope to fill you with all His blessings of grace.
We’ll look more closely at this the next time, but meditate today on the fact that God is filling you with Himself and causing you to abound in Him. That’s something to get excited about.
