John 12:46 – A Light In A Dark World

John 12-46 700x400
 John 12:46

46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Everyone knows that when you turn on a light in a dark room, the dark room is no longer dark. Light dispels darkness; it envelopes darkness. We take light so much for granted, don’t we? Occasionally we’ll have storms come through our area that totally disrupts our electricity. There isn’t any power for appliances, lights, TV, computers, etc. Especially if the storms are potentially dangerous we’ll head to the basement and we’ve learned over the years to have a flashlight handy should the need arise. We have a finished basement so it’s not a damp, dingy area; but when the lights are out, it’s a dark area.

Jesus said that He came as a light into a dark world. The light of God’s love radiated through Jesus so that wherever He went, those who were in darkness to the things of God found a wonderful ray of light, hope, and life illuminating their physical lives and entering into their hearts. You don’t realize how much darkness you’re in until Jesus shows up and totally transforms you. The difference is day and night.

Jesus said that those who believe in Him will not continue to live in darkness because they’ve been translated from the kingdom of darkness into His kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13). Don’t let what you don’t know about the Word or Jesus’ finished work and His covenant of grace keep you in the dark. Paul said in Romans 5:5 that God’s love is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit so you have the light of God dwelling on the inside. His light grows more and more in you the more you grow in Him. The more you partake of His Word, the more you’ll see, know, and experience a greater revelation of Him in your life. The more His love and presence illuminates your life, the more you’ll walk in His abundant grace and love for you. Others will be drawn to the light of Jesus you display. Don’t stay in the dark, dingy, dark corners. Let Jesus flood you with Himself and He’ll dispel every trace of darkness.

He’s called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
