John 4:14
14But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
You can’t stop the flow of a natural spring. We have a little one in our backyard. Since we’re at the lower end of a street with houses directly behind us, any excess water above us always finds its way to our yard. When we haven’t had much rain, you don’t even know a spring is there. With more rain in recent years we’ve seen normally underground water ‘spring’ to life as it filters through the ground coming up to ground level and pouring out….just behind our shed. It isn’t a big spring, but enough to cause some drainage problems in our yard.
A natural spring automatically releases water held underground, and it releases the water in fullness because it can’t hold it back any longer. The supply is pushed to the surface, the excess bubbling up through layers of sediment, rock and dirt, and coming to the surface much like what we saw at Blue Springs State Park in Florida (picture above). It was indeed a spring that would continue flowing and provide not only beauty but life to the fish in the fresh water.
Jesus said that the water He had would quench man’s thirst and continue supplying, nourishing, and satisfying man both in his physical life and more importantly in his spiritual life. The more you partake of Him through the Word, the more He continues to flow into your life. Out of the overflow you can touch others with springs of living water.
The chorus from years back is true of the person filled to overflowing with the satisfying water Jesus gives. It’s a river of life within you. His life flows out from you to others. That river is full of the power of God to release healing to the lame, sight to the blind, and freedom to those who are in bondage.
What Jesus gives won’t run out. The spring won’t dry up. It’s not about you. It’s about Jesus in you. It’s time to release the spring of life within you.
