1 Corinthians 6:11
11And such were some of you; but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Even in our churches today there are some who proclaim that you’re still an old sinner saved by God’s grace. Yes, you are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work, but you are then no longer a sinner. That was your former self. You’re a new person now, recreated with the same Spirit and life of God.
This was the clarification Paul explained to the Corinthian church. He showed a contrast of God’s saving grace in their new life and position in Jesus Christ with those who were still in sin. Cement this important truth in your heart and thinking because it will allow you greater freedom to walk in God’s grace and blessings.
Through Jesus you’ve been washed—cleansed from sin. It’s taking a glass filled with dirt and water for making mud pies in the yard and thoroughly cleaning the cup inside and out so there is no longer any dirt or stain in it. That’s what Jesus has done Paul says. You were the dirty glass but now you’ve been washed in the name of Jesus and are totally clean. He took your sin, and you’re clean.
But that’s not all that Jesus accomplished for you. You’re also sanctified. That means as far as God is concerned, you’re blameless in His Son. Jesus’ blood has made you blameless, holy, consecrated, and purified from sin. It isn’t something you can do on your own but what the Holy Spirit continually does in your life as you walk with Jesus.
Finally, you are justified in the name of Jesus—freed and innocent of the charges of sin against you. The accuser of the brethren can no longer accuse you of your sin because Jesus has justified you. He provided the acquittal from guilt through His finished work and God accepts that. Now you are enabled to live the zoe kind of God life through Him. If your opinion about yourself is different than what Jesus did for you, it’s time to change it.
The good news is that you have received it ALL through Jesus. Walk in this truth today and be set free.
