Mark 16:17-18 – The Power Of His Name
December 6, 2014Revelation 6
December 8, 2014Colossians 3:9-11
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
“Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person” (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is the express image of God the Father. If you see Jesus, you see the Father. Now Jesus has added another dimension. We have been renewed after the image of Jesus. Actually the Greek indicates we are being continual renewed. Hear how the Amplified Bible says it. “10 Which is [ever in the process of being] renewed and remolded.”
We have been made into new creations. We have put off the old man. That is a past event. And with that we have put on the new man. That also is a past event. That is when our spirits came alive and we were born again. That’s an accomplished transaction. Now we are being renewed in knowledge of Him.
We have the new man within. But there is still some residual thinking what we might call the residual left of the old man in our thinking. In fact, Paul is saying we shouldn’t lie to one another as that is residual thinking of the old man. We need to renew our minds (Romans 12:2). “And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
We are being renewed or renovated to look like the image of the one who created us. We need to change our minds (repentance) so that the lingering effects of the old man diminish and the new man becomes more visible.
This is man who sees all people equal in Christ. Jesus is all in all. He is Jesus to the Greek and Jew, bond and free, etc. He is the important things. Jesus is everything to everybody.
So let’s renew our minds through knowledge of Jesus who created us. Let the new man arise within us.
