John 14:14 – The Power of Asking in His Name

John 14-14 700x400
John 14:14

14If you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

As we’ve looked closely at several verses in John about asking when we pray, we’ve learned more about using the name of Jesus. Jesus wanted His disciples to know and understand the power in His name. He was given a name above every other name in Heaven and earth, that at the name of Jesus every tongue should confess Him as Lord and every knee should bow before Him (Philippians 2:10-11).

God honors the name of His Son who is dearly loved. It reveals His authority and character. Jesus is in the Father, the Father is in the Son, and you and I are in Jesus when we’ve made Him our Lord and Savior. This is the exciting connection we have with Him. And it is through this family connection when we’re born again that we become a son, an heir of God. ALL that God has is ours because of Jesus. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your faults and sin; He sees Jesus’ gift of righteousness which sanctifies and cleanses you. Your sins were carried by Jesus to the Cross, and God considers you forgiven, blessed, and highly favored because of Jesus.

So, when you come before Him to ask any thing in the name of Jesus, He has already agreed to fulfill it. God’s heart is full of love for you, full of healing, wholeness, joy, peace, His blessings. See yourself as a child of God, a joint-heir with Jesus (Romans 8:17). When you see yourself IN Jesus, you have confidence to use HIS name knowing that your loving Heavenly Father will answer with His goodness because of the provisions secured through His Son.

1 John 5:14-15 assures us that “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask any thing according to His will, he hears us; And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

You should no longer doubt that God will answer you. His Word IS His will. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Stand confident in using the name of Jesus.
