1 John 5:1 – We are Begotten of HimDecember 19, 2014
Revelation 19:21 – The Sword of His MouthDecember 21, 2014
16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
We’re continuing to see the necessity when we pray of asking our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus. Notice that Jesus correlates bearing fruit and using His name when asking the Father. His followers which include you and me are to bear fruit. In other words, our new life in Jesus should show others God’s goodness, His love, and His grace in our lives. We’re to bear the fruit of His righteousness—not our self-righteousness which gains us nothing, absolutely zilch. But it is His righteousness shining forth in our lives, in our actions and through our words. It’s His grace, ability, and favor that testify of God’s goodness. It’s His love in us flowing out to others who are hurting, offering them the only remedy that will satisfy and transform their lives: Jesus.
Jesus didn’t tell the disciples that if they’re good enough or if they prayed long enough or read God’s Word enough they’d maybe bear fruit. He said they were ordained to bear fruit because they were connected to Him. Apart from Jesus, the Vine, they could do nothing. Man’s self-efforts will always come up short, but God’s grace working in and through you will produce the fruit of righteousness. That’s the fruit that will remain.
That is why we can be bold enough to pray and proclaim Psalm 2:8 that says, “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession”. (Amplified Bible) You and I can ask our Heavenly Father for the unsaved as our inheritance. When you have opportunity to share God’s love with someone who doesn’t know Him, you can pray for that person and expect that Jesus will touch their life and transform it.
We have the ability to walk in God’s abundant provisions and blessings bearing the fruit of His love. Let’s touch people’s lives with the transforming power God through Jesus and see how He provides the abundance of provisions and blessings in our lives.
