“Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last.” Is a quote from a 1963 speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. This was from the “I have a dream” speech he gave during the intense racial equality era of the 60’s. Inspired from above, these words were implied some 2000 years earlier.
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost” (John 19:30). When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He declared the captives were free (Luke 4:18).
Jesus declared freedom to all captives not just freedom from physical slavery, but from everything that tries to bring a person into captivity. Sadly, 2000 years later, many people are still captive to things that stifle their life’s grand purposes.
It need not be so. Jesus has offered the unrestricted gift of freedom. As any gift, we must receive it. He placed this gift on the table and says come and get it. So if you are in captivity to anything, pick up the gift of total freedom in Christ. Hey, it’s free.
