Free To Be You

January 27, 2015“For why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?” (1 Corinthians 10:29) We live in a society where everyone judges everyone. That person is fat or thin. That person is rich or poor. That person is black or white. Everyone labels by the dictates of their conscience. Every person judges others by their standard. Religion is no help. Even though Jesus says “judge not” (John 7:24) religion says to check their fruit thereby saying judging is okay.
This is one of the most difficult problems we have as Christians. Ever since Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil we have a conscience which decides what’s good and bad. That would be okay, but we decide what is good and bad for others as well as ourselves. We pass judgment on a person by behavior, appearance, speech, and performance.
If you are walking in the liberty of grace that Paul is writing about, others will judge you by their conscience which will say that you have to obey the law. The conscience uses the standards of the law. But like Paul, why would you allow another person to judge you?
