A New Year’s Liberation
January 1, 2015Proclaiming Liberty for 2015
January 3, 2015“If I had a bell, I’d ring it in the morning, I’d ring it in the evening, All over this land… It’s the bell of freedom.” From the song If I Had a Hammer sung in 1962 by Peter, Paul, and Mary, singers of folk music most identified with sociopolitical commentary such as war and racial equality. Some 52 years later the same bell rings for the same issues. It’s clear that these matters are not fixed by protesting and song singing.
There is only one way to total freedom. “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32 NASB). The heart of man must change, before there is freedom. Until the world knows the finished work of Jesus, there will be no true liberty.
This year we are going to look into the subject of freedom and liberty. It goes beyond our initial salvation and affects every area of our life. Knowing the truth is what sets us free. Jesus is the truth. We ring the bell of freedom in Christ. “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36 NKJV).
