Don’t Lose Your ‘Umph’

What can you do when the ‘umph’ seems to slip out of your sails so to speak? You know—those times in life when you need extra energy, renewed thinking, maybe even an extra push. We’re all subject to riding the waves of life as I call it.

What happens in your physical body when you’re really exercising hard? You need to breathe more often, right? Even an iron forger finds that by pushing air into the fire, it not only increases the intensity of the fire to mold and shape what he is making, but that air becomes a fresh breath. It’s a breath of air that makes the difference.

The same is true in our lives. Taking deep breaths during times of difficulty, can bring life to our lungs or increase our stamina. In the spiritual realm the same principle applies. Ephesians 3:16 encourages us with this truth: “That He would grant you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.”  The more often you breathe deeply of God’s love for you, the more quickly you’ll be refueled and energized to push on through the difficulties of your day or week.

It comes down to breathing inmeditating—on His Word, refocusing your thoughts on His love for you, and then abiding—resting—in that truth. He is trustworthy and always provides the ‘umph’ you need every time.
