“You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” I’m sure you have seen this verse many times. You are thinking this is God speaking to Jesus at His baptism. However, it’s the prophecy of that event in Psalm 2:7. Even back in David’s time God was setting up the picture of Jesus.
In Mark 1:1, it’s recorded “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” This is interesting because Jesus had not done anything recorded up to this point. The Father announced His pleasure of Jesus not because of what He had done, but solely because of Who He was—His Son.
This is amazing because it tells us that as His children, He is well pleased with us, before we even do anything. God is not waiting for us to be perfect, or behave right, or even do any works. The Father is pleased with us because we are in Christ. He sees us through the finished work of Jesus.
He has the same words for us as He did for Jesus. “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”
