Liberating Your Tongue

speaking good things

Have you ever just ‘gone off at the mouth’? If we’re honest, we all have to say ‘yes’. We’re all susceptible to allowing our mouth to speak before we think through what we’re about to say. Okay, we’re free to say what we want, but that can be dangerous—to others when unkind words are spoken and to ourselves. The problem in part lies with our tongue, yet it only relays what we keep in our heart. If we’re storing up anger, bitterness, resentment, unbelief, in our heart, those will be filtered through our thinking and, you guessed it, they’ll come out our mouth. What does Luke 6:45 tell us? “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good…of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

Want to change your speech? Want to change what comes out of your mouth? You’ll have to change what goes IN your heart affecting your mind and ultimately your mouth. James says our tongue is like the rudder of a ship, steering it whichever way.

You can liberate your tongue by changing your thoughts. Quit thinking like the world. Meditate on the goodness of the Lord, His love for you, His abundant grace to meet every need you have. Continue to feed on what Jesus had done for you and you’ll be able to proclaim liberally His goodness to others.
