Are you a child of the bondwoman or the brother of another mother? “31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free” (Galatians 4:31).
This is the summary of Paul’s allegory for Hagar the bondwoman meaning Mt Sinai or law and Sarah the mother of Isaac the child of promise or grace. We are not the children of bondage. We are the children of grace. We are not captives to the law and to sin, but are free.
We were once under bondage, but now emancipated through the finished work of Jesus. We are walking in liberty. “For, brethren, you have been called to liberty” (Galatians 5:13).
Our forefathers founded America on the idea of liberty—liberty and justice for all. Maybe in this world it might seem that some of our liberties are slipping away. But in Jesus we are totally free and constantly walking in the liberty of His love. More than the Statute of Liberty, Jesus stands as the very basis for all liberty. We can find freedom only in Him. We are free only in Him.
