My Father’s Eyes

his fathers eyes

I saw this just the other day. I’m sure you’ve seen it before, too. A new father is holding his infant and watches the child look at him and then directly into his father’s eyes, resulting in a really big smile. What makes the infant smile? Seeing his reflection in his daddy’s eyes and recognizing him.

Until a child is old enough to recognize that the picture (reflection) he sees in a mirror is actually him, he only knows who he is by observing his parents—how they smile at him, coo over him, and care for him. He sees himself in their eyes. He knows he is protected and loved.

That’s the Father’s Eyes – eyes of love, protection, grace, and favor beyond measure. That’s your Heavenly Father’s eyes for you. Too often we forget and look elsewhere for the comfort, peace, direction, love we need. Ephesians 1:18 says “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; [so] that you may know what is the hope of His calling…” It’s been there all along, waiting for us to look to our Heavenly Father, to Jesus.

When we do, His love and grace transforms us from the inside out. No longer do you feel ashamed, guilty or condemned. One look from your Father’s eyes tells you that you’re His beloved child. See your reflection and who you are in His eyes!
