The book of Galatians talks a lot about the multiplicity of God’s grace and how to walk in it. In our early years of ministry we had Matthew 5:13 and Galatians 5:13 as key ministry verses. They speak of being salt to the world and of a love walk toward others. I like the Contemporary English Version for Galatians 5:13: “You were chosen to be free, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve one another.”
Paul is reminding us that we’ve been set free from the law to walk now in Christ. Many believers had problems continuing to keep the law yet trying to walk in the freedom of the New Covenant. Paul tells them they were chosen to be free, no longer hindered by the demands of do good, get good, do bad, get bad.
The New Covenant of His Grace frees you from performance or behavior-based activities. Paul says it is through love [responding to His rich love for you] that compels you to serve and bless others. Allow His love to flow through you as you encourage others in God’s love and grace.
