Praying For Others To Have Spiritual Understanding

Paul said to the Colossians that he was “…praying always for you” (Colossians 1:3). Prayer is an amazing thing. The idea that we can ask God for something, for ourselves or others, is beyond our natural thinking minds. Paul thought it important. What was he praying for the people?

Verses 9 through 12 reveal what Paul prayed for the people. “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9).

Here is where what is in our spirit gets to our heads. We already have everything we need to know within us. It is now Paul’s prayer that we begin to have a complete knowledge of God’s desires, will, and ways. We are now spiritual beings who need to have a spiritual understanding. Spiritual understanding is all about knowing how God deals with us and how we deal are to with Him. It’s a relationship. It is transforming our minds with the revelation of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. It’s in the Word.
