Jesus Our Jubilee

Sunrise at the beach

The day of Jubilee was a day of celebration. It was also the day when they set the captives free, released mortgaged land, and sprinkled blood on the mercy-seat. They blew the trumpet so everyone could celebrate.

Then you shall cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement you shall make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land” (Leviticus 25:9 NKJV).

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18 NKJV). I think Jesus said this in 28 AD during the year of Jubilee. Jesus is our Jubilee.

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement” (Romans 5:11). Jesus died in the spring on the week of the Passover but He also completed the Day of Atonement for us. He took our sins so that we might share in the Jubilee celebration of all time.
