How’s your heart? Medical doctors encourage patients to have their hearts checked so they can understand stress levels, nutrition, exercise, and other factors that contribute to cardio health. Yes, your physical heart is important, but I want you to see your heart as more than the physical pumping mechanism in your body.
Your heart is the spiritual receptor of God’s truth, love, and grace; and it’s discussed in numerous verses throughout the Bible. David asked the Lord to create in him a clean heart and renewed spirit within him (Psalm 51:10, KJV). Even Solomon gave this wisdom about guarding the heart because it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:21, NIV). My translation of Ezekiel 36:26 says that God will give you a new heart because He will take out the stony, stubborn heart and replace it with a tender, responsive heart [toward Him].
God wants you to have a physically healthy heart but more importantly a healthy spiritual heart. Out of the heart flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23); and out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). What’s in your heart?
You’ll have a good checkup when you anchor your heart in believing the truth of God’s love and grace.
