A Redefined Image

Redefined Image

A friend’s recent posting on social media quoted a song by Thrice, a Christian rock band, and I like their words: We’re more than carbon and chemicals. We are the image of the invisible… You aren’t random molecules without form and purpose. You were definitely not just a blob of tissue in your mother’s womb. You were made in the image of God.

You may want to argue that you’re not holy and perfect like God. Another Christian artist, Francesca Battistelli, explains it like this in one of her songs: I got a couple dents in my fender. Got a couple rips in my jeans…but I’m free to be me. Regardless of what you look like on the outside, you were created in God’s image. His image in you if you know Him.

It’s time you and I redefined the true image of ourselves. Don’t keep looking in the mirror, seeing all your flaws and imperfections. Look in the mirror and see God’s love shining through your eyes, His compassion flowing from your heart…Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

See yourself as God sees you because you’re more than carbon and chemicals. You’re a beloved child of God, and knowing that truth will enable you to walk in greater joy and freedom in Him.
