Does God Hide From You?

desert road

Sometimes to see grace in a Psalm you have to filter a verse through the New Covenant. So often people take a verse and try to live by it only to find that is not how God really is.

Look at this verse for example. “Why stand afar off, O LORD? Why hide yourself in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1).

From this verse one might think there are times when God goes and hides from us. There in fact might be times when you think He has gone somewhere and left you to fend for yourself. Maybe you think like the song “God Is Watching from a Distance” is really true. Or the song, “Standing in the Shadows” as if Jesus is standing somewhere slightly hidden and will come when you call.

No, the New Covenant is entirely different. Through the finished work of Jesus, when you become a believer Christ dwells in you. “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). He is always there with you—in you and He never leaves.
