God’s Love Is Kind

Columbia river gorge

Since God is Love, it follows that the 1 Corinthians 13 reveals the characteristics of God’s love for us. Here is another one.

“Love is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4 NASB)

According to the dictionary the word “kind” means “having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature.” Kind is one of those words which are hard to explain but you know it when you see it.

This Greek word is a verb. It means to be kind. This is an action word that requires we do something to reveal kindness. We are kind when we do acts of kindness.

God is kind. God is always kind. He is constantly doing acts of kindness for us. We probably don’t see most of the things He does for us. Jesus displayed acts of kindness when He, “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil” (Acts 10:38).

Jesus says “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again:… for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil” (Luke 6:35). This isn’t just being kind to people who are kind to us. God is kind to everyone and that’s us.
