Have you ever read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and saw it as God is? Usually we read this and think that this is how God called us to be. But we are called to demonstrate this love to others because God has demonstrated His love in these ways to us. God is love. These characteristics of love are characteristics of God, and especially seen in Jesus.
Look at this verse. “Love is patient…” (1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV2011).
The Bible in Basic English says “Love is never tired of waiting.” King James says “long suffering.” It doesn’t mean God suffers, so is better translated patient—extremely patient. He has complete patience with us. His patience won’t run out.
It’s hard for us to understand God’s super patience as even the best of us become easily impatient. God never does. Love is always patient. The Message translation says that “Love never gives up.” God never gives up on us no matter how many mistakes we make. Doesn’t that set you free?
“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 NASB).
