God Is Never Rude

Easter Sunrise over Table Rock Lake

1 Corinthians 13 lists the characteristics of God since God is love. Look at the first one in this verse.

Does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil” (1 Corinthians 13:5 NKJV).

Remember the sitcom Full House where the character Stephanie played by Jody Sweeting would use the saying “How rude”? It’s a cute saying, but being rude isn’t cute.

The dictionary says the word rude means “not having or showing concern or respect for the rights and feelings of other people: not polite.” Therefore the opposite is showing concern and respect for others.

That’s the picture of God. He shows ultimate concern for others and He never forces anyone to do anything. He doesn’t yell at you for doing something wrong and is never mad at you. God is polite. We see this in the way Jesus interacted with people when He was here on earth. The only people He had harsh words against were the self-righteous religious people who were causing the people to be led down a wrong path.

Love does no behave rudely or disgracefully. Love glorifies God.
