God’s Coffee

Listening to some Bible teaching the other day, the Lord dropped a picture into my mind of a coffee machine. We probably all use one so it’s easy to see the correlation of scripture. You put the water into the water section, add your ground coffee to that section, turn the switch ‘on’, and wait as coffee begins to filter into the main container. You can’t get coffee without adding the water. You also won’t have coffee without adding coffee.

Ephesians 5:25-26 says: “²⁵…Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, ²⁶ that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word…” (ESV)

Here’s the correlation I saw. The Word of God is the water. The ground coffee is you and I as our hearts receive His word of grace. As the water of God’s Word of grace filters through our hearts, it produces more of God’s grace and life in us. That’s when we can share our cup of coffee with others, letting them know of God’s love and abundant grace that will indeed change their hearts and lives from the inside out.
