Just a Thought for August 27August 27, 2015
So many times we read scriptures skimming over the more familiar verses not getting the full meaning. Sometimes I’ll get stuck on a phrase in a particular verse and just want to stay there and meditate on its meaning. Such is the case today.
Paul gives a particular admonition to believers in Colossians 1:23. After he amplifies the hope they have in Jesus Christ, he encourages them to continue walking in the faith. He wants them to be grounded and settled in the truth of God’s love and grace. That’s why he tells them not to be moved away from the hope of the Gospel that he shared with them.
The Gospel is the good news of God’s love and graciousness to you. It is full of hope, full of God’s favor available 24/7 because of what Jesus did. No wonder Paul wanted the Colossians to be grounded and not moved from this truth. Paul wanted them to continue growing in the richness of God’s promises, and in His grace. It is this truth that gives you hope, for today and all your tomorrows. Anything other than Jesus will disappoint and leave you empty. Are you grounded in the Gospel of Hope?
