Just a Thought for August 15
August 15, 2015Just a Thought for August 16
August 16, 2015“The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: You maintain my lot” (Psalm 16:5).
In the Old Testament, the priests and Levites had no land allotted to them. They had no inheritance in the land. “And the LORD spoke to Aaron, You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any part among them: I am your part and your inheritance among the children of Israel” (Numbers 18:20).
We are the priests of the New Testament (Revelation 1:6). We have no inheritance in land or goods. Our inheritance is in the Lord. As children of God we are “heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). Our inheritance in both what we receive now and what lays ahead in Heaven comes through the finished work of Jesus.
An inheritance comes through a death. Jesus died that we might inherit all that He has given us according to His will and testament—the Word. Jesus is the portion of our inheritance. By grace we receive it all through faith.
