You may have eaten at a Smorgasbord before–a buffet offering a variety of hot and cold meats, salads, hors d’oeuvres, veggies, bread/rolls, and desserts. Before you know it, you can easily overload your plate(s).
Such was the case years back when my parents and I visited relatives in the South after my college graduation. My mom and I were anxious to ‘try’ everything, ended up being too full, and definitely regretted some of our choices.
Sometimes as believers we have a smorgasbord mentality when it comes to the Word, and we can be picky eaters. It’s important not to discard the encouragement of the Word, especially in areas that challenge you. Keep your heart open. Jeremiah put it this way in Jeremiah 15:16 (ESV). “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart…”
I encourage you to dig into the Word. Fill your plate to overflowing with God’s love, grace, acceptance, and favor for you. It’ll satisfy like nothing else…a continual feast at His smorgasbord.
