One of the criticisms of grace people is that they use their freedom to do anything they want. Obviously, if we did so, we would be violating the Word.
“For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil” (1 Peter 2:16 NLT). King James puts it this way. “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God” (1 Peter 2:15-16).
We are free, that’s clear. We are under grace and not under the law. That’s our position in Christ. But freedom is never an excuse to do evil. We never hide evil under the cloak of liberty. We are children of God and our actions reflect on Him.
For the true grace person, evil doesn’t even cross his mind. We are no longer sin-conscious, but Jesus conscious. It was by His Amazing Grace we have our life. Though we aren’t perfect in all our actions, it’s never our intent to hide evil under the coat of liberty.
