Love is a power—God’s power. It enables us to do what God does. God is love. “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16 NKJV).
1 Corinthians 13 shares with us the attributes of God’s love. He bears all things. All means all.
Love “Bears all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7 NKJV). God puts up with a lot of foolishness from man. In fact, when we were at our lowest as sinners, He died for our sins. He remembers them no more.
“Bears” is from the root word “roof.” Love acts as a covering. It doesn’t get even or mad. It covers a person’s actions and behavior with grace.
We have more trouble with this one. We just yell at people instead of bearing it. We are not patient people. Fortunately, God is. “Love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8 NASB). The love of Jesus not only covered, but removed all our sins.
I like the God’s Word Translation. “Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up” (1 Corinthians 13:7 GW).
