Back in Jeremiah’s time, he received this message from God:
“What’s more, I’ll make a covenant with them that will last forever, a covenant to stick with them no matter what, and work for their good. I’ll fill their hearts with a deep respect for me so they’ll not even think of turning away from me” (Jeremiah 32:40 MSG).
He is talking about a new covenant that would last forever. This new covenant was ratified in the blood of Jesus. It says it’s a covenant for good and not for evil. This is the gospel of good news. This is the gospel of grace. The NIV version says “I will never stop doing good to them.”
This is important doctrine—the doctrine of God’s goodness. God wants your good. He is working in your life to come out good. (Romans 8:28) We have to get that firmly in our hearts. Bad things don’t come from God. In fact, He is at work turning those bad things into good. Never ascribe anything bad that happens to you as ‘well, I guess God wanted to punish me or wanted to humble or teach me something’. God only works good in your life.
