Jesus died for us so that our sins would be replaced with God’s righteousness.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV).
We have the righteousness of God. We have His perfect righteousness. That immediately tells us that it’s perfect righteousness. Righteousness is not something we can earn. It’s a gift. It is God’s perfect righteousness.
“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17 NKJV).
What do you do when someone offers you a gift? You receive it and as your parents always said when you received a gift you say, “thank you.” There are no strings attached to this gift. It is much more than being in right standing with God. It is His righteousness. It’s is His always being right character given to us for His glory.
