Works Come From Rest

The Old Covenant was a covenant of works—if you do or if you obey or if you will hearken. It’s a covenant of “do, do, do.” The New Covenant is a covenant of rest. It is a covenant of “done.”

For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His” (Hebrews 4:10 NASB).

Works don’t come from working. They come from resting. Sounds weird but that’s how it works.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed” (2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NASB).

In Christ, everything is done—finished. We are holy. We are justified. We are perfect. We are healed. We work for none of it. It’s received through faith which is resting in the finished work of Jesus.

“28 Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NASB).
