Just A Thought for January 24January 24, 2016
Paul had to be hard on the Galatians because they were caught believing God’s grace yet using works to receive it. In Galatians 2:16 he gives them a hard word: “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” What is he saying? Basically, the works of the law (man’s doing) can’t justify you before God. It’s only through the faith of Jesus Christ. He was faithful for you. There isn’t anything else you need to do apart from accepting God’s provision through Jesus, so don’t keep trying to justify yourself through works of the law. Relax and rest in (abide and live in) God’s grace through Jesus.
